Thomas Cantley

Thomas Cantley is an actor, singer, model, writter, filmmakker, standup comic.

Thomas Alexander Cantley was born on April 3rd 1983 in Halifax Nova Scotia, born the only child, you could say he has spent his entire life in the lime light. At the age of six he moved with his mother and father to Monterey California, it was here that he got his first taste of Hollywood’s attention when his mother entered him in a child modeling contest. He made it to the top 50, a major feat when you consider the industry, but to make it to the top 5 is a amazing thing for a child. Sadly his modeling career was put on hold for a few years anyway when he was told that his height was not exactly ideal. This did not stop Tommy by any means, he felt within him that the stage was his calling, and if you look at his life it is almost as if all roads lead to it. When he reached high school feeling the odd one out he made friends with the drama crowd. You could say that he joined Drama out of necessity, or social acceptance. Feeling like the black sheep anywhere else in school, he felt at home with the drama crowed. When Tommy was on stage he would steal the show, even if his part was a small one. A trait of a truly talented actor to take a small part and make it memorable. Not being satisfied with just being on stage, in high school Tommy took his talent to the page. Penning three plays and entering them into various festivals One of his idol growing up was Martin Luther King, stating that he admired his morals and his beliefs and just that he stood up for those morals and beliefs. Qualities that Tommy tries to live his life by. When he asked if he were to win an Oscar who would be the first people he would thank, his response was: “my mom, god, my grandmother, My Dad and my 2 dogs.... and everyone who has ever supported me” he carries his mother and grandmother with him everywhere he goes, Tommy has two tattoos on either shoulders, Starts, to represent his mother and his grandmother. You could almost say they are two angels sitting on his shoulders guiding him through life. And telling by his drive and perseverance they are guiding him to the life of a superstar.

Heath Whitelock

IN MY OWN WORDS: In an effort to save you from the usual third-party style biography, I thought you would find it refreshing to read about me in my own words. My hope is that you will get a better feel for who I am and what I am about if I share my history with you in a more personal way.

I was raised as an only child in a small town in Southern Manitoba, Canada. My parents, Lorne and Bette, have always been and will continue to be my biggest fans and supporters. At the early age of 5, when I started piano lessons, my mom was found most evenings screaming at me to practice so that Sharon, my piano teacher, wouldn't be upset. Mom would literally sit right beside me on the bench every single night to make sure I did the lesson plan right. I had little patience for scales and boring minuets. I found it so hard to practice all those scales and notes on paper when I could already easily play and sing the songs that I heard on the radio. Pop and rock music was so much more fun (and easier) than classical. I could play those three chords over and over on the piano and never get bored. It was not until much later in life that I learned that it was what was underneath these chords that made them so powerful. Inside these tunes, there was such an overt passion: A verse, chorus, and a bridge were the only devices used to put forth one simple message. It almost didn't matter what the song was about because if it was a good one, you became a believer by the end of it. More than that, you would be singing along with it, or in my case singing and playing. At a young age I recognized that this was a powerful tool. So I was hooked. I decided I would write the worlds best songs and have thousands of people singing along to my words.

Enter the Rock star.

Since as young as I can remember, I was constantly doing pretend concerts, interviews and award acceptance speeches. When most kids were doing a play-by-play commentary from a hockey game, I was pretending I was on Barbara Walters and would conduct an interview with myself. My daydreaming ensued when my third grade teacher was often quoted saying "Earth to Heath!!" many a time in front of the whole class. The kids would laugh at me and I would pretend to be embarrassed but, really, I loved the attention. Being at the center of attention was my space. Having all eyes on me was like being on stage.

Enter the actor.

Growing up, I watched a lot of TV (What else is there when it is frozen 8 months out of the year?) and was fascinated, in particular, with comedians who could impersonate other people. I grew up on the Dana Carvey/Mike Myers days of SNL and would lift, word for word every sketch I saw. I loved these comedians because they seemed miles ahead of the others; they could literally become someone else. I thought that was the epitome of acting!! I started coming up with my own impressions and started integrating this material into my musical performing. During my childhood I competed in and won many piano and singing festivals. Often times, I would win simply because of my dramatic flare. It must have been hard for the other kids that I competed against who worked so hard and played all their pieces so well only to be beaten in the finals by an 11-year old playing Debussy like he was falling in love. I couldn't play or memorize all the notes but I acted like I could. It worked. I convinced everyone, including myself. I won the trophies and then would go home and give my Grammy acceptance speech to the mirror. Those were the good old days when my "talents" outshone my abilities.

Through my later teen and early twenties, I would continue to perform in everything from Church musicals to University drama productions. At Brandon University, where I received my Bachelor's degree, I studied piano, composition and minored in drama. University was considerably more challenging for me as I had suddenly become a little fish in a much larger pond. I had to work double hard to overcome the laziness I had developed from "acting" my performances: Sight reading, in particular. My acceptance into Brandon's Classical music program was fan-faired when one of my former festival adjudicators - Canadian composer Remi Bouchard - attended the audition adjudication. Thankfully due to his presence that day, it still didn't matter whether I could read music. I was in. No acting necessary. Thus I began the long 4-year commitment to classical music. A commitment that would soon demand my reading and writing more notes than I ever thought existed.

University was indeed one of the most difficult and trying periods of my career. There were more than a few times where wanted to give up. In fact, I probably hated it more than practicing the piano with mom sitting on the bench with me when I was 5. It was like I had been at the front of a very long line, and then discovering that I was actually at the back of it. Way back. Despite the difficulties during these Post-Secondary years, I went on to audition for an acting agency in Winnipeg and through them secured my first TV and Film work. This was my first taste of the screen. Interestingly, my first independent film experience featured myself and my then infant brother Riley who was only 4 years old at the time. Now that kid has an even further head start than I did.

I graduated from Brandon University in 1997. I didn't remember what my GPA was and, frankly, I didn't care. I had finished. I had stuck it out. Thanks to the help of Mother's "bench sitting", Dad's bulletproof logic and several key professors (bless you Robert Richardson), I had come through. I was authenticated. I now had a letter after my name. Amen.

That following year, I hopped on a bus with a suitcase and 2 guitars and moved to Vancouver looking for opportunity. I took a day job working at a bank and then pursued my musical adventures at night. Shortly after I arrived, I contacted a guy named Sam Kennedy whose number I had received from a friend of a friend back in Manitoba. I had never really met Sam but I heard that he was a musician. At our first meeting, we instantly connected and began writing and playing together. Sam would go on to co-write two of the songs from my forthcoming album, "In this Madness". His simple and groove-oriented approach to song writing was inspiring and set the stage for me to create free flowing melodic lyrics. Sam is able to find smooth hook like no one else, not to mention that he has the best bass tone in the world (Sam also plays bass/acoustic guitars on various tracks on the record).

Furthering my artistic development in Vancouver, I enrolled in a part-time program at an acting school hoping to get my foot into the local acting scene. This time, I never finished my program as I ended up booking my first theatre show in Vancouver: Shortly after that, I secured an agent and have since performed in numerous Television and Commercial gigs.

In late 2003 I entered into partnership with SOS Music to produce my first official solo album. Most of the last 6 years of my career, I have spent searching for the right relationships and partners to assist me in my musical dreams and with SOS I have found it. This production team is probably one of the best kept secrets on the planet. They are both gifted song-writers and producers who have an incredible ear for authenticity. No other comrades have pushed and kicked my artistic ass like these guys have. They are my friends and the musical "spouses" that assist me in actualizing the music that has been in my head and heart all my life.

My life: A series of people who have, at the right times, pushed me and believed in me. I don't even know if I have a pre-disposition to music but my mother is probably the most artistic as she plays piano and has an affinity for writing. My father has a gift for organization and teaching, and has a very methodical/bulletproof approach to critical thinking. Despite their very different personalities, the one thing they both have provided me with is a belief in myself. They believed in me more than I did. My story is one of encouragement. Looking back at my old home movies, I now realize that I was really not the "prodigy" that I thought I was. I was just a kid. I was not overly gifted but some very important people in my life all told me at one time or another that I was special; that I had a gift. Some people have done more than that and have really gotten in my face, not allowing me to quit. In these moments, these people have come against me and risked my rejection of them in order to see me succeed/grow. They have gone one step beyond friendship and have demonstrated a higher love in my life. Even now as I write this, I sit back amazed at how complex and beautifully woven my life thus far has been. It is like God's hand conducting the "Heath Symphony". This humbles me and makes me so thankful that I have been blessed by so many wonderful people in my life. So you see, when you strip away the hype, and the flare for the dramatic, I am really not that special. It is the people in my life (And you know who you are) who are special. If I can remember this then I can always be successful.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this rather monstrous bio.

With utmost sincerity,

Heath Whitelock

Jadis Gloom is a 22 year old singer/songwriter who is stumbling her way into the world of music in a quest to tweak the hearts and minds of a grey populus with something magical and wild. Starting off at the King's Head, Kitsilano, and mentored by Marcus Martin of "ARCTIC", Jadis continues to work the open-mic nights around Vancouver (a little sporadically, admittedly) until such time as she manages to get herself an 'official' gig. In her spare time, Jadis draws black and white cartoons - her latest work is called, "Pee Buddies" - a one page exploration into why women always feel like they have to go into the bathroom next to you, even when there are several other empty cubicles they could choose from.

I meet Jadis threw my sister while she was taking some photos. Jadis Gloom is atrue beauty in both herself and music. We love her!
